Booktalk: Henrietta Wooden was born enslaved. As a teen she was ripped from her household and bought. Years later, a miracle occurred, and he or she was given freedom papers. However Henrietta’s freedom was short-lived. She was tricked again into enslavement and despatched to a Mississippi cotton plantation.

On June 19, 1865—Juneteenth—she was emancipated. Lastly free for good, Henrietta Wooden sued the person who had kidnapped her again into enslavement—and he or she received! Henrietta was one of many few individuals in United States historical past to ever obtain a reparation fee for slavery.
